No Picture nor sound nor anything but power led is working

Hi. Ive been using a 50-inch plasma Sansui TV as an additional screen on my laptop (mostly for gaming) for quite a while but now something stopped working. The power indicator on the TV turns from red to green when switched on, but NOTHING else happens. Even when no other cables but the power cable is connected this happens and I cannot even get the INPUT select or anything else to show on the TV.

I doubt the issue is with my laptop since I can see it detects the TV when turned on as the TV is set as my main display in this configuration. I tried using other HDMI cables too but to no avail - I say this though it might be irrelevant since the same things happens with nothing connected as mentioned earlier.

Another thing I noticed - its a rather old TV, and usually when I switch it on, I can hear one or two “clicks” in the TV as its turned on. The power indicator still goes green but I am not hearing those “clicks” anymore.

UPDATE:

The replaced fuse is still working after first couple of tests (so it has not re-blown, yet). That might be important. Another "pattern" I now recognized for the 1st time after testing with the open panel, is that the "clicking" of the relays I mentioned originally, I can now see that on the board indicated in the image below, those click are accompanied by a smaall green led going on and off with every click. BUT this happens only once after the power has been disconnected from the mains completely. If I just switch the TV on and off with power button, the clicks do not happen again...

Also confirmed that results are exactly the same if I test with or without hdmi connected. Point is after the fuse replaced (and working still) the original issue is still unsolved (or just partially solved?)

Update (06/19/23)

@jayeff @oldturkey03 & anyone...

This is the progress I made thus far. I opened up the panel, then I disconnected all boards from power supply board and check voltages - all were good. I then reconnected all boards to the power supply board. Tested it - obviously nothing has changed and so just again the clicking sounds, no picture.

Then decided to disconnected all the boards from the psu board one at a time only to see if the clicking stops - and that process told me it was the Y-Sus board thats causing the issue.

Problem for me here in South Africa, shipping costs is about 4x the price of a replacement board - aliexpress, ebay, etc. - making it ridiculously expensive to replace the board - unless Im prepared to wait like 10 weeks or something then the total cost to me would be about 3x cost of a unit. Eish.

Whats failing on these boards? could iust be a loose soldier joint? or just a blown capacitor? something i might be able to fix/replace? I have a multimeter I just have no idea how to test for these things...

Hi @daniespreeth,

What is the model number of the TV?

完成的

@jayeff

SANSUI 50" HD Ready PDP TV

Is that what you require?

完成的

@daniespreeth

Is there a model number? Look for a info label perhaps onthe back.

Sowwy... slow morning... lol

@daniespreeth

Can't find any info about the model not even a user guide.

Sansui aren't very forthcoming about releasing any info it seems.

Sorry I can't help except to say maybe check the boards for any obvious component problems e.g. overheated, burnt out, leaking etc.

@dani@daniespreth that sounds like a main board issue.Even in a plasma TV it is the main board does all the system control. It is time to remove the back cover from your TV and to take a look at the boards. Check for obviously damaged locking components, corroded cables etc. Post some pictures of all of the boards with your QUESTION. That way we can see what you see and hopefully help you with this repair,在已经存在的问题里加入图片

Ok, this is more work than I expected, but hey, still better than losing my 50"!

I will post pictures as soon as I can - had to create space to do this first, now I'm stuck on what seems to be the last screw remaining but the bugger wont come loose - it's going to test my nerves - how does one remove one final "smallish" screw that seems to be stuck and from all the struggling its head is half-stripped already?

Just thought Id let you know why my next response is taking this long.

Thanks for the help thus far!!

@daniespreeth it's a Plasma TV :-) Those things are beasts :-))

Took some time for dinner but Im still struggling with one freaking screw that's stuck. Tried percussion (not too much obviously) but that made no diff. wondering if slowly heating up the area around the screw will make a difference? any help or tips would be appreciated!

完成的

@daniespreeth which screw is it? Sometimes a little tapping with a small hammer works :-)

完成的

Yeah - tapping with hammer is what I meant with "light percussion" - tried to make it appear less harsh but that IS exactly what I did. IT STILL STUCK!

ok all screws around the sides are out, now from right below the middle of the panel, right above where the base connects, are three smaller screws in a "triangle" pattern. I removed top middle one, then far right one, left is STUUUUCK. And it seems those 3 might be important screws? or not? im outa ideas really - will the heating up (carefully) make any diff you think? dont want to try and risk it if there wont be any chance of success in the 1st place - hehe
