I can only hear the typing sound
My 3ds xl has no sound except for when typing it will play the typing sound but nothing else

Try safe mode + a system format if that doesn't work. Just know safe mode will update your 3ds to 11.17, making it much harder to hack if you were planning on that.

Will this work if I homebrewed it already?
that's even better, you don't have to worry about 11.17. In that case though, i'd try dumping dsp firmware before the other options. If you need a refresher, it's in rosalina under Miscellaneous options > Dump DSP firmware. No idea if it'll work, but it's worth a try
