Got water in device but works fine but

So my son left his switch in the backyard. It's been raining for the past couple days. I dried it as much as I could. Connected the charger and it works. Turns on everything works, it charges and sound works. Only when the charger is connected. When not it kinda freaks out and turns off and won't power on and when it does it powers off. Now do I still need to try to fix it. Is this something that could get better or will it get worse?

@sammi1234 it has the potential to get worse once corrosion sets in. for now it appears your Switch has already trouble with the battery and its circuitry (Possibly the USB-C port). I suggest that for now you stop continuing to try to charge, sync or otherwise use the Switch. This potentially can make a bad situation worse. This may further damage your game console. The longer you wait and the more of the water evaporate, leaving substances behind, the greater the chance of terminal failure.

The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your Switch by using [these guides] . You must remove all EMI shields from the motherboard. If you do not remove those, you might as well not do anything. After you removed those, clean the whole board, connectors and all with +90% isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide , and even so it was written for an Apple iPhone all the points are still pertinent to your console. While you clean your board, check for any obvious damage, like burned or missing components etc. When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Best thing to do, would be to clean it with an ultrasonic cleaner, but if you do not have access to one, this will at least help. Once all this is done, reassemble your Switch and then re-evaluate. Until it is cleaned, everything will only be a guess. Just always keep in mind, that even with all this, water damage has only a small chance to be fully repaired, but you should at least give it a try.

Ok you know the silica gel packets you get when you buy shoes and whatnot well save those in ziplock so when something like that happens you can put device in ziplock with gel packs to absorb all the moisture don't use rice it can cause mold issues and tiny pieces get in your device

@nancthe1 it is not the moisture that cause short-circuits. It is the elements left behind after the moisture dissipates. Things like Sodium, Potassium and plenty of others will lead to corrosion of the traces and components. Silica gel will not clean the circuits.

@oldturkey03 ( yay I figured out how to fix the problem i sent you a comment about man I feel so dumb sometimes bc I don't pay attention to things that I should alot of the time epically when I cycle off the ADHD meds sooo have a great day or night oh and I usually learn.something.from.your posts or comments thank you for that.. here is the original comment i posted to your reply...Sorry I've been away a while and yes I agree but silica gel works better than rice and better for your phone bc of all the particles of rice left behind. Most people do not posses the knowledge or the tools to take a phone apart and attempt a deep cleaning honestly though I've been using my Note 9 for a long long time after it accidently got submerged and it still runs great.😃 I do enjoy reading your answers bc you are very helpful and knowledgeable just what people are looking for in here
