6 Red Blinking lights (left side darker) on Sony KD-49XE8396

Hi,

I've got a Sony KD-49XE8396 TV that will switch on show the Sony logo then the Android logo and then switches off, and then blinks red 6 times.

I've read that this is the backlight, and during it showing the initial logos I can see that the left side is definitely darker.

I've also read that you can bypass the error to get it working but I'd prefer to fix it if at all possible. Any help would be appreciated.

@watson306 failed backlights commonly do not create a error code (very few TV models do this). It could be a power board issue or a LED driver board issue. Post some good pictures of the boards with your QUESTION. That way we can see what you see, 在已经存在的问题里加入图片

@oldturkey03 I've opened it up and took a pic of the boards I can see.

There doesn't appear to be any obvious burning on them.

But I can take a closer pic of them if you direct me where?

@watson306 take a look at the very first board. It seems to be your LED driver board, part number 1-981-457-12 which fits Sony KD-49X720E, KD-49X706E, KD-49X725E, KD-49X727E, KD-49X700E. It appears as if fuse F2000 is no longer there. Looks like it blew right of the solder pads but leaving those intact. You can resolder a new fuse (trying to establish which kind is needed). Something is shortening out on the board. Schematics are not available, which makes it harder to determine what is going on. Of course, you can always see if you find an inexpensive replacement for it.

BTW the capacitors look good.

There appears to be a few of those boards on ebay. Could that he all it is?

@watson306 Yes, it could very well be just a bad LED board. The replacements at ebay are fine and should work for this. The fuse sits before the mainboard connector. It is most likely to protect the main board from getting zapped by issue on the driver board. I'd give it a try.

It's is ossible that art of the backlights have burned out. It's is an easy fix but I'm thinking you'd have to get the lights from a company like Digi- key or RadioShack might be of help!

I havent taken it apart yet.

Another thing I have tried is to start it up with a bright light glaring at the screen.

But it still starts then turns off with the 6 blinking lights.

Will th LED's I need be obvious once I have got to them - i.e will there be some kind of part number on them?

With my regards and if I may. Look across the tops of all the capicators and see if any of them are swelled or buldgeing. If so they are weak and or failing and should be replaced.

Ive added some images of the two boards I can see.

There doesnt seem to be any swelled capacitors unless I have missed something?

I agree with the man who noted the missing fuse. Except for on minor possibility. Is there any chance that lightening could have hit it or maybe a power surge! Instead of something being wrong with the board. Just in my opinion I have found that a fuse will simply blow, but to blow the whole fuse completely off the solder pads usually takes a power surge of some sort.

@tazmaniac_37752 you are right and I would definitely consider that as well. However, I would expect some drastic scorch marks and soot residue if that fuse actually blew from a large over voltage. This could have been as simple as a bunch of cold solder joints which over time failed and the fuse simply dropped out.

Lighting strikes etc. have actually more of a tendency to destroy the main board through the unfused input source connections. I appreciate your excellent thoughts on this.
