Pi3 B+ struck by lightning

Hello, in Summer a lighting stuck my pi and burned it together with its power adaptor and my tv. The tv service responded that the overload came though the HDMI port.

So, here are some pictures of the pi:

and the power adapter

I wanted to know if there is a change to replace the burned component and give it life again... Or should I considered a dead pi?

Thank you in advanced.

Charalampos Chrysikopoulos the first thing you want to do is to clean the board of all the debris. Isopropyl alcohol and a small brush should work. Looking at the amount of soot on the board around F1 and looking at what appears like a melted solder connection. It looks like F1 is past the point of resetting. I'd replace it. The other place I am concerned about, and it could just be my old eyes, but around the HDMI connector. There seems to be an area which seems to either, have molten solder created solder bridges, or some other damage. Again, clean and re-evaluate (post pictures after) for damage. I'd do those repairs before trying to apply power.

Hi,

Do you have a DMM (digital multimeter) and know how to use it?

First check that there's +5V DC on pin 1 of the USB output plug of the power adapter. If the power adapter has no voltage output it may be easier to simply replace it rather than to fix it. The specifications are shown on the adapter. Some mobile phone chargers have nearly the same specifications

Here's the schematic for the Pi3 B+ that should help you to possibly fix it.

According to the schematic there's a resettable polyfuse MF-MSMF250/16X connected to pin 1 of the USB port on the board.

Check that it tests 0.00 Ohms as it is designed to reset itself if it is tripped by an over voltage/current event. Then again a lightning strike is not a usual event. If it tests open circuit i.e. OL or infinity Ohms on the meter then search online using the type number to find suppliers that suit you.

Once you have cleaned up the board so that you can see if there are any components damaged (burnt or heat affected etc) check if there's +5V on the Pi board and if it still doesn't work you may have to start point to point testing to find out what else has been affected.

At least you have the schematic and what all the components and their values are, which makes it easier to find replacement parts.

Hopefully a start.
