Logitech Pop Mouse Battery Drain

The average battery life specified for the Logitech POP Mouse is 24 months.

It uses one AA battery.

During the past month, I have had to change 3-4 AA batteries as s result of battery drain. This is simply awful and unacceptable. I am using Duracell batteries.

I have connected the mouse via bluetooth to a Macbook Pro.

What’s going wrong here?

Update - Following some trial and error, it turns out that nothing was wrong with my setup and there was no interference with other wireless devices in use. The culprit was the brand of battery used. The Duracell Ultra AA batteries were of very poor quality I am guessing and probably from as bad batch. Using Sony AA batteries since the past two weeks and the mouse battery level is still at 100%. With Duracell, I would have had to change the batteries twice by now.

Hi Sam,

Has anything changed in your setup around the time the excessive battery drain started? The Bluetooth communication between the mouse and your MacBook is susceptible to interference and will thus have to boost the power output in order to maintain contact.

Although I didn't find any information specific to your mouse, I did run across a couple of guys having power drain issues with a different Logitech mouse. The first guy had a cordless phone too close to his setup.

My Logitech K800 wireless keyboard ran a long time between charges until I replaced the landline phone on my desk with a Panasonic phone with DECT 6.0 Plus Technology. This caused the logitech keyboard battery to run down in a few hours. I put my old ATT phone back and the Logitech keyboard works fine again.

Another user apparently had a problem with dust in his mouse.

My Logitech mouse had slowly started eating batteries more quickly until I was replacing them every few days. I just blew some canned air into it really well and now it's working like a champ and not sucking my batteries dry!

So look for any wireless devices that could be interfering with your mouse, and give it a good cleaning and let us know what happens.

Yes, I did change my work setup a little recently. I have been using the mouse on a PU leather desk-pad which is reversible - one side navy blue/blackish and the other a shade of yellow. So far, I have been using it with the darker side facing upwards so I have reversed it with the yellowish side upwards. Read somewhere that"using the mouse over a dark-coloured surface such as a black or dark blue surface can cause the battery to drain faster". Not sure how true this, but let's see?

You mentioned that someone had a cordless phone too close to their setup. Hmmm, I have a few wireless things running:-

Wifi router Archer MR600 - two walls and a room away.
A couple of Wifi hotspot devices placed on the desk now and then.
A couple of mobile phones placed on the desk sometimes.
2.4GHz wireless keyboard connected through a nano receiver.
Very occasionally , I use a TP-Link TL-WR802 300Mbps Wireless N Nano Router to combine an additional internet connection using Speedify via ethernet (joys of living remote with poor connectivity).

I don't think dust is an issue since the mouse is fairly new and the surfaces are clean. I'll give it a good cleaning through.

Will report back with an update after selectively putting away the other wireless devices to determine if this a factor affecting the bluetooth mouse's battery.
