Battery case "split" open, like forced out by swollen chemical elements inside. A gap on one side of almost 1 cm wide. However still functioning normally, ie. charges/discharges. The cover don't sit flush with back-side of MacBook. How do I de-swell Battery so it sits flush in the slot again?

I've got one just like it sitting on my desk. Nasty aren't they. There's really nothing you can do. High end batteries can be had at www.batterybiz.com, replacement battery at www.hienergybatteries.com for 40% less. Also here http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacB...

You can try 1-800-SOS-AAPLE and complaint about it and ask for a warranty exception, this is a wel know problem and I think there was a recall at first.
Mine is open in the middle on the bottom 4 mm on one side and 5 mm on the other. I didn't call Apple because I didn't want to raise my blood pressure yelling at them and have a stroke. Let me know if it works. This is not a cheap, wait, let's say inexpensive battery.

But please discontinue using the battery. The reason there was a recall on them was because they would catch fire. If yours is bulging, remove it from the computer until you replace it and Follow the instructions left by " Mayer" for the rest of it.
Another vender I like is www.fastmac.com They sell good battery's also and they are usually stronger than Apples

AFAIK, the battery "repair and exchange" program on the MBP batteries has concluded. Here's a blog article talking about a bulging battery. It may still be worthwhile contacting Apple and seeing if they will replace it. Either way I agree you should stop using a bulging battery immediately!
