Where to purchase and SSD for iMac Intel 27"

I just got a new iMac model A2115, EMC 3442 27” Intel. It came with a 256GB SSD but I need to upgrade that soon to something more a like 1 or 2 TB SSD. I have replaced HD’s quite a few time in both iMacs and Macbook’s so I am fairly familiar with the process but the issue is I cannot find any information about what aftermarket SSD will work with my machine and where you can buy one. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I have the 256Gbyte Version and the SSD is soldered to the mainboard.....so how to update that?

@ peter Arbeiter it's my understanding that you don't. On the iMac 27 2020 the storage is paired to the logic board and encrypted by the Apple T2 security Chips. The storage is NOT removeable.

@oldturkey03 - There are two versions of the system! One with the soldered in SSD 256GB low end model and the removable SSD's on the high end.

The T2 doesn't affect the replacement aspect of the drive only the inability to access the data if the drive is removed from the system a new drive can be mounted.

The process should be the same as the 2019 model iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display 2019 Blade SSD Replacement. The OWC Blade SSD should also be compatible Kit with 2 TB SSD

I’ll be frank I haven’t upgraded the 2020 models, but I can’t see a reason why.

Update: The iFixit guide is not physically correct as the images are from the 2019 guide. The process is the same, there is no HDD offering and depending on exact model you have the Flash storage (SSD) is soldered to the logic board only the higher models offer a removable module.

What about the T2 chip? OWC does not list the 2020 iMac as compatible.

The 2020 iMac does have a T2 chip https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208862

The initial, “chosen solution” to this question is dead wrong according to everymac.com and OWC. I’d hate to open a 2020 27” iMac only to discover that the blade SSD is now soldered in place. Only those 2020’s that were originally configured with 4 or 8 TB of storage have a 2nd PCIe slot to accept a replacement blade, the first half of the storage capacity being soldered in place.

@Henry Rose - Well dead wrong is a bit strong.

At the time we had limited info. If you read my answer “ The process should be the same as the 2019 mode” we didn’t expect a major change in the storage. FYI - Depending on the config you might still have a working PCIe slot.
