How do I find a universal LCD driver board matching my LCD panel?

A couple years ago, I managed to extend the life of my LCD TV using a very basic trick. I thought the main board was fried, but ironically, baking it fixed it :-D.

The whole story is here: 42LD75LGD: No sound and no input/output. Main board fried? if someone’s interested in the background.

Anyway, now the mainboard is fried for good (after being baked 4 times), and I want to find a universal board, but I have no idea how to find one that matches my LCD panel. The panel model is LC420WUH (SC)(M1). Back then @oldturkey03 had kindly helped and found the specs sheet for the panel: LC420WUH-SCM1-LG.pdf .

When looking for generic boards online, most of them need to be connected to a T-CON board, but this particular TV doesn’t have a T-CON. It seems to be embedded in the main board.

So my question is quite simple: how do I go about finding a generic board that matches the LCD panel? I’ve spent hours looking for it using search engines, online shops (from big ones to small ones) and other resources, but no luck so far.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Hi there!

Really? No one? It must be harder than I thought…

The LCD panel is in perfect condition, so I’m having a hard time accepting that just because of a bad quality main board, the whole thing is only good for a land field. I’m really disappointed. Not at the guys here, but rather at the manufacturers that make these devices and do not provide any way to fix them when they break.

I’ll hold on to this panel for some time, see if I can find a solution to this issue or even buy a used mainboard (you never know, someone might break their TV’s panel and sell a main board in working condition), so if anything occurs to you, please let me know!

Cheers!

Hi

You wont find a “generic” main board, you’ll need to find the exact match for you TV.

Look for the part # on the main board. It is often written on the board or sometimes on a tag on the board.

Try shopjimmy, they have many TV parts

@fnipco for a universal LCD driver board you need to use the manufacturer and panel model number. In your case we know your panel is LC420WUH (SC)(M1) Now you have to contact the seller of those driver boards and give them that number. They will check to see if their devices are compatible with your display. Issues you will run into is that they may not make/have those for thus panel since there is no real standard for it. I have managed to use a driver board for a different panel to work by switching wires and doing some resoldering on the connectors. A royal pita.
it might just be worthwhile for you to replace your main board and avoid the hassle of trying to make it work.

Thanks @oldturkey03 ! That's what I feared, in this case. The fact that the T-CON board is integrated into the main board makes it much more challenging. If only the T-CON was separated, it would be much easier to find a matching universal board. I'll try contacting a few sellers directly with my panel number, but I doubt I'll get a positive answer (if I get an answer at all). If they had something for that panel, I would probably had found it by now (I suppose they'd advertise it). Even getting a replacement board seems challenging. They seem to be out of stock everywhere and I doubt they'll ever make them again. My best bet now is finding someone with the same TV and a damaged panel who understands that there is still some value in the spare parts...

Thanks again!

@fnipco the good thing with the universal boards is that they replace your main board, power board and t-con board. I use a few laptop screens as well as older TV panels that stayed out of the landfill because of those boards. I’ll see what I can find out from my usual sources. You in the USA?
