Blank screen, fan running power LED is on.

Hello, I need some help with my laptop. Today I turned on the laptop but the screen was black (no boot up, no acer logo, nothing.) Just the fan at full power and the power Led was on. I've tried changing hard drives, removing and reinserting the ram, pressing the disconnect battery button and waiting for 5 min and plugging it into another display. But still, nothing at all. I really need this fixed as I don't have enough money to just buy another one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

Try the following:

Turn off the laptop, if it is on and disconnect the charger if it is connected.

Open the laptop and disconnect the main battery from the motherboard (you don’t have to remove it just disconnect it) and then also remove the coin cell battery from the motherboard. Remember which way it is inserted for when you put it back. Usually it is +ve on top.

Then press and hold the laptop’s power button for 30 seconds to dissipate any remaining power in the motherboard and then release the button.

Note : You may want to check if the coin cell battery voltage is OK. Normally it is 3V DC but these batteries are non rechargeable and only last about 5 years. If it is <2.6V DC replace it. They are a common battery and are available most everywhere. The battery number should be stamped on it e.g. it may say CR2032 but verify to be sure

Reinsert the coin cell battery and reconnect the main battery to the motherboard and close up the laptop.

Connect and switch on the charger to the laptop and then try to turn on the laptop.

Here’s a link to the ifixit Acer Aspire ES1-711-P1UV Battery Replacement guide, which may help. The coin cell battery is visible in the images of the motherboard. It is in the centre just below the main battery. Be careful and gentle as you pry it out of the holder.

If it starts up OK you will have to reset the date and time as the laptop’s BIOS will have been reset to its’ default setting. Also all the other BIOS settings have been reset to default so if you had any BIOS user defined settings set to a particular setting for any reason to suit your requirements you will have to set them again
