Screen tearing for K401LB Nvidia 940M GPU

After applying a new thermal paste on both the Intel GPU and Nvidia GPU, my Nvidia GPU start giving me this issue after working fine for an hour or so.

Intel still working without any issue.

For software side, have tried reinstalling the driver

For hardware side, have tried reapplying thermal paste, untighten the screw pressing down the GPU, and wriggling the Nvidia GPU to see if it will change from the current problem to another problem like RGB line or laptop sudden shutdown, but no change.

Would like to test out if there is any other method of fixing this problem other than reflow soldering or similar as I do not have the tools needed for it.

when reapplying the thermal paste did you get it on any of the tiny components on the nvidia gpu? What type of thermal paste did you use.

@vip_aha Before reapplying, I have check that no left over paste have touch any metal components protruding out of the GPU. To add on, my GPU have a tape that cover the board around the heat spreader.

The paste that I use is Artic MX-4

Kirin Sim this most certainly looks like a GPU error. Connect an external monitor and see if it gives you the same issues. To repair it you most likely will need at minimum a reflow and at best a reball with a new GPU

Tried connecting to a external monitor like you suggested, issue still persist.

Yeah, tried to see if there is still other feasible method as doing reflow require the use of a heat gun, which I did not have one myself. Will approach the repair shop one of these days and see what they can do. Thanks
