TV shuts itself off

Block Image

I have a Sanyo Model #FW32D06F 32-inch LCD HD TV.

When it was being used recently, I had turned it on, and after a few seconds, it makes a quiet buzz, and snaps off.

I took the back off and and looked at it in the dark to see if anything gave a small flash, and nothing did.

The buzz in much louder with the back off, and found out that it was coming from the left side of the motherboard.

What do you think is wrong with the TV, and what parts do you think have gone bad?

Thanks,

~Titus

@lordtychus explain this “it makes a quiet buzz, and snaps off. “ a bit better. Where did you hear the buzzing from and what do you mean by snaps off. If it turns off it is possible that this is an issue with a failed POST or a bad power supply. We would need to see the boards as well as knowing what you have tried.

@lordtychus from what I can see on the posted picture you are looking at BA6AFNG0201 1 which is the main board/power supply. The left hand side is the Hot side (higher voltage) and the noise could be coming from the large inductor coil L601. It is possible that it is the cause (unlikely) for the troubles that your TV is having. It is also possible that this is caused by "pulling" to much current. Of course we need to see more of your board to check for any obvious issues. you also need a multimeter to do some testing.

You may also hear the transistor "humming" which would be somewhat normal. In general it is this board that I would replace first because your TV's symptoms would be close to what a failed power supply/main board combo does. The other reason why I contribute the error to this board is because it is hard to come by and in short demand. This is usually due to too many failed boards and everybody is replacing the same board.

I'll open it tomorrow and find exactly where, but the buzz was coming from inside the TV.

The buzz is coming from the left side of the motherboard.

@lordtychus any chance you can repost the image? Seems like it got stuck somewhere ;-)

I have reposted the image.

I think the noise is coming from the cylinder piece with copper wrapped around it.

I don't know what it's called.

Also, I realized I didn't answer one of your questions.

When I said snaps off, I meant that the TV screen shut itself off, but it showed that it still had power, as indicated by the standby light on the front. :)

If you plan on working on this yourself, be careful as always, I recommend to gain access to the circuit boards, stand in different places around the back when you power it on several times to get a view of everything as it is turned on, IN THE DARK so maybe you can see what may be arching and snapping when it shuts down, good luck and don’t get hurt. Some places have shields covering the area so you may need complete darkness?

Ok, I will take it apart tomorrow and see what it looks like.

I have done what you suggested, nothing flashed or sparked, but I found that the buzz was coming from the left side of the motherboard.
