I have a 2001 Kia Optima and I cannot find the camshaft positon sensor to replace it. I've spoken with the parts department and they can't even tell me. They gave me the www.kiatechinfo.com website and it show a close up picture, but I don't know what it is. Please can someone please help me?

The camshaft position sensor monitors the position of the camshaft. It is mounted at the rear of the cylinder head
To Remove Camshaft Position Sensor
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect wire connector from sensor.
3. Remove sensor mounting bolts.
4. Remove the sensor from the rear of cylinder head.
To Fit Camshaft Position Sensor
1. Install camshaft position sensor in rear of cylinder head.
2. Install and tighten sensor mounting bolts.
3.Connect wire connector to sensor.
4. Connect negative battery cable.

Looking at the engine it is on the right side ,on the side of the block,mounted up side down.there are two 10 mm bolts a bracket that is to removed to get to camshaft sensor a 10 mm bolt is on it also. Air box should be removed for better excess to the sensor.

if is a 4 cylinder an you ere in fron of the engine it is on the right side of the head you will see a plug and it has a 10mm bolt holding it

When standing in front of the car look to the right of the top of the engine. Attached to the end is the camshaft pos sensor. Has 1 bolt attaching it. Be careful when removing the wires because being tat close to the manifold it gets a lot of heat and is prone to crumbling when taking off. If this happens your in for a very expensive repair. Because that wire is part of the engine wiring harness kit and isn't sold separately.

if itas the same as my rio 2005 at the right hand end of the engine block underneath the ignition coils is a plastic cover held in place by 2 x10mm bolts remove this cover and the sensor is inside. you will need a new 'o' ring as they normally get brittle after a few years and will break as you take the cover off

Looking at the motor from the front of the vehicle the front of the engine is on the passenger facing side(left) if you follow the top of the motor to the right at the very end of the valve cover facing the (right)on the front side of the valve cover closest to the front of the car is a plug connected to a sensor(cam shaft sensor)it has a extension cable be the comes with your new cam sensor that is fastened to the block by one bolt. This usually comes with your new sensor and has a tendency to be cracked so be sure to replace both (cam sensor and extension)

I have a 2006 Kia Amanti, I can't figure out where the cam sensor is or the crank sensor

I'm not familiar with Kia, but it would be worth looking to see if Hanes has done a manual on the Optima, that will tell you pretty much anything you need to know about the car.
