Why isn't new hard drive being recognized upon installation?

Why isn't new hard drive being recognized upon installation?

I followed hard drive replacement instructions and I continued with insallation instructions. Upon boot up the drive is not being recognized. The computer only shows me leopard disk not hard drive.

What am I doing wrong?

Use Disk Utilities on the installation disk to format the drive first.

Thanks for responding.

I'm new to this....

To format drive I would have to see it within disk utilities correct? When I open disk utilities I only see the cd-DVD of snow leopard.

Yes you have to see it. Check your cable connections to the drive and logic board.
