Pinkish glow from corner of monitor 5 seconds after power on.

Hello,

I have this monitor HP Z27q 27-inch IPS 5K Display  https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c0... which purchased in faulty condition for $15, and I am hoping I will be able to repair it.

The monitor has a pink glowing hue from the bottom left corner that occurs 3 to 5 seconds after powering on. I have attached two pics to show the screen is functioning normally when powering on. The previous owner also mentioned that sometimes the screen will flicker on and off but I have not been able to recreate that since I bought it.

I am reasonably comfortable taking apart electronics and I have replaced displays before but I am kinda clueless as to what I am looking for.

Thanks in advance.

Edited to add pic of the panel:

Edit: Monitor completely torn down. There are 6 pin connectors on each end of a hard pcb led strip. Not sure how o test these or where to get a replacement.

Edited to add the model number of the led strip: LM41-00102A. Google brings back zero relevant results.

I think they are epoxied to the body as they dont seem to be removable and i cant see any screws.

Edit: Googling “sjm-1 94v-0” is bring back some relevant results at least.

Update,

I reassembled the monitor as I am going out of town for a while and decided to deal with it when I return. After reassembly the monitor is functioning properly for the past 4 hours.

@bobmorales

could be a main board video processor issue (less likely ) as well as a bad backlight array issue (more likely). you would have to take it apart and check the video board first. Make sure that the components etc. still look okay and nothing the is obviously damaged. A bad backlight array would also explain the “screen will flicker on and off” Once you have the back removed, let us know what exact model panel is in this monitor.

Update (05/11/2019)

To open the panel, remove the Philips screws for the frame. Start with the ones by the driver PCB. You should then get to disassemble the panel. Careful! There should be a few sheets of white “plastic” Those are diffuser sheets and need to be reassembled in the same order and the same directions. I mark mine with small stickers so I do not mess them up when I reassemble. Let me know if that makes sense

I removed the back cover and found the panel number LTM270RL01. It seems there are a few available for anywhere from 300-600 USD. Not sure if it is worth it for me at that price. Is it possible to repair the array? Could it be as simple as a bad LED that could be replaced?

All the cables and ribbons seemed to be in good condition. I visually inspected both boards and other than being a bit dusty they also seemed fine. I couldn't find any corrosion or anything like that, but I am definitely not an expert.

I agree with replacement cost being high. Yes you can most likely replace/repair the array. Can you post some good pictures of the panel from the back and the sides with your question? 在已经存在的问题里加入图片

@bobmorales great job thus far. I realize it's a PITA to find parts that are made for it and sometimes we have to improvise by getting stuff that can be made to fit. Let me see if I can get more info on how to test the LEDs individually. Looks like M and G being positive (most likely 3 volts individual LED) and see if they work in the area that gives you the purple screen,

Is the LED strip a consecutive strip or is it split somewhere. 493mm (~19")seems to be pretty much the longest I can find. check on places like this http://nabara.net/tag/2012sgs40-7030l-56...

Also you could always get in contact with a vendor on Alibaba or TaoBao and see if they can help with the backlight for a Samsung LTM270RL01 LCD panel

the connector for the backlight strip is a Molex 104127-0610 pitch 1.0 mm 6 pins

I would say try replacing the screen if it doesn’t work I don’t know how to fix it

This is most likely a failed capacitor on the power supply and not a defective panel or backlight. If you can find a replacement power supply, it is an easy fix. I have the same problem with mine with multiple symptoms. When first powered on, it is fine then after a few seconds/minutes:

1. sometimes the whole screen turns magenta

2. sometimes the lower right 20% goes green

3. when the problem occurs, the power button on the front of the monitor doesn't work

I've plugged mine into a power strip with switches for each outlet. When the problem occurs, I power it off at the power strip and then back on. Usually good for another few minutes. This is a strong indication that the power supply is failing.

I've not been able to find a replacement power supply. I'll put it on CraigsList for free and if no one wants it, off to the recycle center.
