Charging iPhone with step down converter

Hello all,

I bought from eBay a step down converter. It converts the 12v from my car to 5V 2amp. The strange thing is that is does not charge my iPhone, but if I plug in an other USB device, like a powerbank, it charges without problem. Also I checked the output, and that was fine.

Why is my iPhone not charging with the step down converter?

I am using this kind of converter:

Uas, does it charge any other way? What model iPhone do you have?

Hi, yes it charges with the normal wall charger. It is a 6 Plus.

iPhones can be very picky when it gets to accessories. One may be “lucky” and get a working knockoff charger at first try or buy 5 and not find even one working. Being aftermarket chargers and cables well known iPhone killers, especially the ones for cars, I’d recommend investing a few $ more and try to find a real MFI certified charger to get your phone certainly recognized and keep it safe too.

I understand it, but that is not the solutions for my card. I want to glue a usb female to the dash so I can put my lighting cable to it. I read out the pins and I get 5V at the lightning cable, but I think I do not get the amount of amps i need to charge the phone. I found this diagram on the internet: http://pinout.net/pinout-scheme/503/iPho...

Can this be a solution? Thanks!

1 Amp is sufficient to charge an iPhone 6, I would hardly investigate in that direction. Never thought about adding a loose Usb port since the plug and play ones for cigarette lighter come so cheap, thus I can't be of any help with that, sorry.
