GPS does not stay on; goes into sleep mode
the GPS does not stay on when turned on now. a box appears stating that the battery needs recharging and it will go into sleep mode. what does this mean and how do i fix it?

It means that your battery is either discharged or does no longer hold a charge. If you have an AC or 12V DC adapter, plug you GPS in and let it charge for a few hours. Then unplug it and see if that makes a difference. If not, you will probably have to replace the battery. Instructions for that are on here Good Luck and hope you will soon find your way again...;-)
