google play / gmail
In May 2018 gmail no longer worked. Message says device does not support google play. What is the problem?????

This is a known error that has been going around older Android devices.
Pull down the notification bar on your Android device and hit the gear-shaped settings icon, or find “settings” in the application tray. From here navigate to Apps, or App Manager. Then scroll down and find Google Play Store. Select this, and tap Clear Cache or Data as shown below.

Clear cache or data was not an option. Google Play Services shows notifications - Blocked - cannot undo. Have tried to register device with google but not successful.
