I had the same issue and fixed it this way.
Step 1: Download WIC Reset Tool here: https://resetkey.net/download and install program.
Step 2: Connect printer to computer, connect computer to internet.
Step 3: Get the reset key : https://resetkey.net
Step 4: To reset Canon 5B00 Waste Ink Counter - 5B00 Error – You should be PUT CANON PRINTER IN SERVICE MODE!
Step 5: Click on Clear Waste Counters then enter the reset key to reset your Canon printer 5B00 error

Press and hold the power button (While connected to power)
Press the 'cancel' button SIX (6) TIMES.
Release all buttons.
Press 'cancel' button FIVE (5) Times.
Press the POWER button ONCE.
Press the power button to turn off the printer then turn on again.

Ink needed to clean the inkjet printerheads goes to a reservoir. The purpose of the reservoir is to evaporate the inksolvent leaving, after time, a residu in the reservoir. Once the reservoir is filled with residu this procedue will not work
