display LCD damage - flickering

Hi everyone,

I have a client who has a MacBook 13" with an LCD display that overtime (she says she didn't drop it) started flickering.

I wonder if I were to replace the entire top part (easier for me) if that will address the issue or if there is something more than just the LCD display. Also if someone were to fix the current one is it just that the backlight went out?

An image and video are attached.

Thanks.

I would hook it up to an external monitor first to help isolate the problem.

Move the screen up and down and see if there is any change.

Run your finger along the bottom edge of the display where the board is and see if you get any changes.

Hi @mayer,

Thanks for your reply, I connected it to an external display and it showed up fine, no issues. I just ran my finger along the bottom edge, the black hinge and also where it says MacBook and it doesn't seem to help.

Do you think the display connector came loose somehow but I don't think this is the case as the rest of the display is fine.

I'm assuming and the easiest way forward might be to replace the display with a new one off eBay. Thoughts?

Thanks.

@spearson48 My guess at this point, would be a damaged board on the back of the LCD. You can probably find just the LCD board on eBay.

I would add it's easier just to replace the complete display assembly while more expensive its a lot less work and less risk of damaging things trying to get the LCD panel off to get to the driver board or, just replace the complete LCD panel assembly.

@danj, that was what I was thinking as well, thank for the additional information.

Time vs money is always a factor. Sometimes I have the time and sometimes not.
