HDD Errors (UDMA CRC Errors)

Hi,

In the SMART Utility log file I noticed that my HHD had a high number of CRC Errors. I replaced the HDD with a new Hitachi Travelstart 500G HDD, and still got the same errors. I also replaced the HDD Cable: same result the errors still occur.

See SMART Utility log file below.

Could there be something wrong with my motherboard?

Am I at risk to loose data?

Regards

Erik.

A CRC error is a sign of a corrupt archive. CRC stands for "Cyclic Redundancy Check" and is a means of verifying the integrity of an archive. For RAR archives, if redundancy records were included, it is sometimes possible to work around the error. Most of the time, this error isn't really fixable except by trying again. Download the newest Stuffit and unzip the files in your user download folder.

Ultra DMA CRC error rate Low value of this attribute typically indicates that something is wrong with the connectors and/or cables. Disk-to-host transfers are protected by CRC error detection code when Ultra-DMA 66 or 100 is used. So if the data gets garbled between the disk and the host machine, the receiving controller senses this and the retransmission is initiated. Such a situation is called "UDMA CRC error". Once the problem is rectified (typically by replacing a cable), the attribute value returns to the normal levels pretty quick.

LOL @ Mayer, read the question better. This has nothing to do with RAR files, CRC have many applications, not just in archives
