How to remove coolant hose without spilling coolant everywhere?

I needed to replace my blower motor and removing it was not a plesant process because a coolant line leading to the heater core was in the way.

I cant drain the system because I have neither the time, resources, and its like 10 F where I live so its super cold and I would rather not be messing with liquids in the cold.

I just need to remove the one side, which has a screw type hose clamp, so I can move it out of the way for easier access.

So my question is, is there an easy way to remove the line, without making a mess by spilling coolant everywhere, and what would be the easiest way to do this?

Cameron you can pinch off both lines going into the heater core . You will loose some fluid from the heatercore but you can keep that to a minimum y putting a plug in the core . the reason you need to clamp of both sides is coolant will come from the other line out the core . Next when you clamp off the lines make sure you cover the lines with another piece of hose so you dont damage the heater hose . I use a small set of

needle nose vise grips with fuel line over the ends to keep the hose metal contact to a minumum . you can also get hose pinchers that work ok at your local auto parts and tool store

Ok. But the line is the one before the control valve so if the valve is closed, no fluid should go back the other way. But thanks for the advice, i have a pair of those needle nose grips that i figured would work.

@cam2363 since there is not shut-off or any other way to divert the coolant, you do have to drain at least part of it.

Ok, but would there be a way to crimp the line until i can get something into the end of the tube to stop the fluid from leaving then remove what i used to crimp it? Like use a pair of vice grips or something to crimp the line? Or maybe kink the line and do that?

Sure you can. Vise Grips will work but you are going to spill some coolant. Keep a bucket or something to catch it and remember that antifreeze is toxic for animals and small children. And make sure that you do not crimp the line hard enough for it to crack in the cold weather.

I figured i still would. Im aware of the dangers and I will make sure to capture coolant. But i dont want to keep the line crimped for an hour or 2, so any ideas on what i can use to plug the line? Ive heard of using sparkplugs, which i do have, but any other ideas?

Spark plugs, big bolt, Hardware store plumbing nipple etc. Crimp the line, remove the clamp, pull hose o plug with (whatever will fit looks like about 1/2" would do. Then apply vise grip just on the end you put the plug in.
