I turn it on i get white screen no logo but i hear the chime i have tried holding command + R but it does nothing i have also tried holding shift but it does nothing sometime it will turn off with just a quick press of the power button but other times i have to hold it down

Hello Galen,
Sounds like your computer cannot load the OS. Sounds like your computer has a pretty bad Operating System corruption or a Failed Hard Drive. If you have another mac handy you can remove the hard drive and with a Sata cable check it's health with Smart Utility. Let me know if you have any questions.
