Car Stuck on Park

I was replacing the backup lights to my 06' accord LX V4, when I go to the car to try them out I find that I cant get the car out of parked, I then notice that the cars instruments (Speedometer etc.) lights and gauges turns off seconds after turning on the car. My signal lights doesn't work, except for when I turn on the hazard function. Everything else works. ANY AND ALL HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU.

I had this problem on my ford focus.  When you press on your gear shift and press the button there is an actuator on your gear shift that releases your gear shifter in order to put it in drive or reverse.  The actuator is released when you press your brake and push the button on your gear shifter to release it.  I took the middle console off and checked the actuator and it was not actuating releasing the gear shift.  The actuator mechanism went bad.  I had to order the hole assembly on line with the gear shifter it only costed $99.  Order it and got it within 3 days, replaced it put it back together and it worked.   The only thing is that you have to take the console off and release the bar that goes to the transmission.  Really easy fix.   If I had taken it to a dealership they would have charged me $2000 as a fix to the transmission not knowing that it was just the shifter actuator that was not working.   Hope this helps.

It sounds like you may have damaged the electrical system in your Honda Accord while replacing the backup lights. The fact that the instrument panel lights and gauges turn off shortly after starting the car and the signal lights aren't working, except for when you use the hazard function, are both indications of an electrical issue. I learnt few trick from nerdycar you can try to fix the problem:

  1. Check the fuses: Make sure the fuses related to the affected systems are not blown. You can find the fuse box in your car's owner's manual or by searching for its location online for your specific year and model.
  2. Check the wiring: Make sure that the wiring for the backup lights and other affected systems is securely connected and not damaged. If you find any damaged wiring, replace it as necessary.
  3. Check the relay: Make sure that the relay for the affected systems is working properly. If you're unsure where the relay is located, you can find this information in your car's owner's manual or by searching online.
  4. Have the car professionally inspected: If you're still having trouble after trying these steps, it may be best to take your car to a professional mechanic or dealership for further diagnosis.
