iMac not responding to Command R
I have a an older iMac trying to reformat but can not access disk utility on start up using Command R.
Ideas please?
Insert your original system installation disk as you boot the machine. Hold down the "C" key while booting. Go to the second page of the system installation when the pull down menu appears. Pull down the Utilities menu to Disk Utility. You can either attempt a repair or do your reformat and then a system installation..

Mark,
Try Command-Option-R. Start up from OS X Recovery over the Internet.
Good Luck!

@victory - Victor only the newer 2011 onwards models (a few 2010 as well) have this ability. If he can't get into the recovery partition he likely doesn't have the updated firmware for this either.

@weido - Can you tell us your exact model.
Depending on its age you might not have onboard recovery services. In some you needed to upgrade the systems firmware and reinstall the OS.
