nope, you need to follow this guide.iPhone 3G Mute Button Replacement
there is a very tiny groove the switch sits in on the inside of the mute button. just make sure you have switch down and mute down to align. can be a bit tricky so i use a bit of tape or blu tak to hold mute button on while getting switch and cable right.

Why wouldnt you glue it in? Just a bit of super glue to hold the connection in place would make things a lot easier
