Bottom half of screen unresponsive to touch
After a small fall from a counter top, the bottom half of my phone screen has become unresponsive to touch. This means I can not access my phone.

Sounds like the digitizer was damaged during the fall (or sudden stop at the end). The phone could need a new digitizer, or the plug could have just become partially disconnected.

Thanks for your suggestion! Where is said 'plug'? Do you think this is something I can access or is it likely the phone will need to be sent back to Sony for repair?
You would need to open the phone to get to this plug. If you have never opened a phone before then I would recommend having a professional do it. Just about any repair shop should be able to do it.
shelton is definitely right, it is the problem with digitizer. you can replace the digitizer only but the problem is lcd screen was glued to digitizer glass much like iphone screen, it is a hassle to remove the glue and requires technique so it is better to replace lcd fullset. if you wish to know how to open the phone try watching tutorial on youtube.

Your z3 compact screen maybe damaged by dropped, i suggest you try to disassemble your z3 compact then reconnect the screen flex cable. see if the screen problem is cause by the screen flex cable loosen.
If flex cable reconnection can not fix the screen problem, then you should turn to the hardware solution: change a new screen.

Hi, Until you get it fixed, can you use the phone in 'landscape' mode, i.e. turn it 90 degrees to the right?
