keyboard not typing words

I am hitting reply on an email and when I put the curser and try to type using the keyboard and nothing gets typed.

How do I get it to type?

While it could be your keyboard is pooched, it could be as simple as clicking the mouse/touchpad in the typing area.

If the computer has no idea what your focusing on, it can only guess.

Is the the unit making any sounds "ding" or "ping" in nature!? If so, you've not got focus on the app or where you want to type.
