Able to "unlock" a Toshiba 1.8" hd from a 5th gen iPod?

About 6 months ago I upgraded my 5th gen iPod with a 260gb hd and new battery. It is awesome! But that left me with an 1.8" 80gb hard drive doing nothing. A month ago I found a place that sells a USB case for the hard drive. I purchased one and installed it. The light on the front came on red then green but nothing shows up on my Mac. I went to Disk utility and nothing is listed. So I plugged it into a Windows machine and only found it only shows up in Device Manager/disk drives. And then only with Toshiba MK8010GAH. So I know it is the drive.

So I emailed the case seller and got back the following, "Is that Toshiba MK8010GAH? If so, your hard drive is locked by Apple. You may contact Apple to unlock the hard drive first." I did and they did not respond.

Can anyone help me with how to unlock the drive? I asked "MacGeekGab" and they told me to reformat it when connected to the iPod. I did that and it still is not seen.

Please help!

Sorry, it looks like this is not possible -- even a whole forum full of hard drive hackers tried and failed :( Take a look at http://forum.hddguru.com/toshiba-apple-i...

I do agree with bushing but am a believer of giving it our best shot to see if we can get it accomplished. After some research I found a good start at http://www.computing.net/answers/windows... by a poster with username BMN12345 at least he got the drive recognized and repaired the partition. Check it out and see if it might work for you. GoodLuck
