On the canon 7D there is a screw on the bottom board that comes loose and moves around in the camera and eventually sticks to something. When I see this error code this is usually the case for me and an easy fix. You will have to take off the back cover and there is a flex for the card reader that is connected to the main board on the lower right of the board. You would have to remove the flex from the board and use a light source to look at the bottom board to see if the screw is missing. I usually find the screw by tape around the view finder area when the back cover is off. I also find it when taking the front cover off and it will be stuck to the shutter motor. Usually after finding that screw it cures the error and the camera will work as should. To take off the back cover there is four screws on the back around the viewfinder, three on the bottom and one under the grip on the back cover. Be careful when removing the back cover as there is a flex connecting the back cover to the main board.

encontré el tornillo justo en un conector haciendo cortocircuito, lo puse en su lugar pero la cámara sigue apagada con el error 40.. posiblemente daño la pcb flash board, o tal vez fuente de poder..
This saved my bacon. The camera had been dead over a year, I've bought a replacement, but with that nagging thought in the back of mind I did more googling, found this and voila: it's alive again!!

Awal nya canon 7D saya bermasalah di bagian batrai,setelah itu muncul tulisan error 40,saya buka penutup bawah kamera,ternyata baut ada yg lepas. Setelah di pasang,masih error 40. Saya biarin 1 malam. Eeehhh,besok nya hidup. Tp moto nya harus make live view,gak bisa kalo gak live view. Itu kenapa ya om????????
Encontré el tornillo, atorado dentro de la camara. Atorado en una especia de cilindros electricos, lo coloque en su lugar, puse todo de nuevo y sigue con el err 40. Voy a probar cambiar el pcb flash.

Error 70 with the 7D relates to a battery problem. I would first, take the battery out and see if it is damaged or leaking in any way. If it is not, get some Isopropyl or contact cleaner and carefully clean the battery contacts on the battery itself and the corresponding ones in the camera. If that doesn't work, it might be time to try a new battery. Is this error something that is happening occasionally, or does it happen all the time and completely prevent the camera from functioning normally?

Battery-related error: Clean the contacts of both battery and camera with isopropyl alcohol. Try replacing the battery.
