LCD doesn't light up after replacement

Hello all,

Thank you all for your awesome contributions to this site! I recently replaced the entire top display unit on my macbook pro today. Upon screwing everything back in and closing it back up, the screen never turned on. I shined a flashlight behind the apple logo and saw a faint image on the screen.

I wondered if perhaps I might have caused a short on one of the connections so I plugged my broken display back in. It lit up just fine. Is my LCD replacement screen likely defective or could it be another issue?

I did reset PRAM and followed apple's instructions to reset SMC.

I'm so hoping someone has had this problem and solved it before. Thanks so much!

Update (06/05/2016)

Well turns out I was shipped a faulty display unit. After ordering from a different vendor I installed the new display and my mac is as good as new! Thanks for the comments!

Make sure all the connections are secure and dust/dirt free, if it still does not work I think you got a defective screen
