Why is my screen black?
My laptop powers up, but the screen is black.

Well, there could be plenty of problems
First thoughts:
- Damaged LCD screen
- Damaged GPU chip on motherboard
Try a external monitor, to check if it outputting any video signal.
So hook up a HDMI, DVI or VGA kabel to your laptop and monitor.

u've said it almost all ... it could also be a dead inverter
