patsy, from your description this is likely a bad door switch button. See if the door and the switch line up. You may also try to recall any of the last error codes by following these steps:
Select the DRAIN/SPIN cycle
Select NO SPIN
Press and hold the PREWASH option button for 5 deliberate seconds
The last stored failure code will be displayed for 4 seconds then the display will switch back to the normal selection mode. Let us know if you get any code.

I did test and got no code.
patsy, then my first fix would be to check/replace the switch button.
that is exactly what is wrong with mine… what is a part number for that machine?

Search online for "(insert model number of washing machine) parts" to find suppliers of parts who have parts diagrams etc e.g. searspartsdirect.com or partselect.com to find the manufacturer's part number (not the supplier's part number) for the part that you want.
Then search online using the manufacturer's "part number only" to find suppliers that suit you.
