@ROBERT THOMPSON almost a 7 year old question :-) What is the exact model number for your washer?
On kenmore 110 series, including he models, an e2 by itself is either lid lock or the thermistor at the water inlet. The lid locks on these are surprisingly fragile and hard to test so dont take the mechanism off unless it fails a continuity test from the plug. Thermistors on the water inlet are easy to test when they go bad they almost always have zero continuity at any temp.
