Blinking on and off and stops when unplugged
My iPod is in perfect shape but recently stopped working and all it does is blink on and off with a little clicking noise and all I see is the apple and then it goes away. When unplugged I got nothing.

jpbss231, based on this statement "unplugged I got nothing" I would start with a new battery. Remember that this model has issues with the battery connector on the logic board. Inspect it carefully. Of course you also want to make sure that there is no debris, corrosion or bend/broken pins in the dock connector. Use a different cable as well, just to make sure. The clicking noise is most likely the hard drive, but even a failed drive will not cause the symptoms you described.
