Repair guides and support for Kenmore washing machines.

The spin cycle doesn't work, How can I fix it?

I have an old belt drive Kenmore 70 Series washer. The water drains from the tub, but it will not spin. The motor operates and the belt turns, but the tub does not spin. I have seen YouTube videos on how to fix the motor coupling on a direct drive washer, but I cant find any info on a belt drive washer. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

Check your clutch and add ATF to the transmission. Common issue with the older model washer is not enough or old transmission fluid.. If you can give us a model number, we may be able to find better direction on how to do those things.

Thanks for the answers. I had this washing machine for over 10 years, I paid $50 for it at a rummage sale. I figured I got my money's worth out of it and took it to the salvage yard. I think the issue may have been the ATF and clutch; considering the mess that was left underneath the machine. Thanks again for your time and responses.

There's a long list of thing this could be but the common is:

Lid Switch Assembly

If the washer won't spin the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.
