Computer Beeps 3 times and won't boot

I already tried the memory and it's not that.. I was on my computer and my dog dropped my computer to the ground, maybe 2 feet. It fell on the rug, I turned it on and nothing appears on the screen, and there's 3x3 beets, I'm freakish out >.<

You'r ID covers 7 different devices… but generally 3 successive tones, a 5 second pause (repeating): This indicates RAM does not pass a data integrity check.

That means the RAM is lose, the RAM connetor is damaged, or the RAM chips are damaged.

So go over the RAM slots (there's two you know) again. Check that the RAM Chip is completely pushed in as far as it will go and the "wings" (aka locks) are in position. The link is generic yours should be similar

You do not need to completely reassemble the machine to check the RAM but.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it accepted.

Along with what machead said, RAM slots do go bad. Start with one known good chip. Put it in the lower slot and give it a try then move to the upper slot. Even when finding a bad slot, sometimes a bad slot will take a lessor chip, it's just trial and error.

I had the same issue with the three beeps and it was not the Ram or the Ram Slot that went bad. I had just replaced the HD and was inserting the original OSX boot CD and would come up with a Kernal error. I inserted a OSX Snow Leopard and received the 3 beeps. What I found I was doing incorrectly was trying to boot from a CD prior to formatting the new drive. I couldn't get into the Utility mode to format a Journaled HD. I tried every command I could find on the Internet and the one that worked was when I plugged in the Ethernet Cable and pressing/holding N after the tone. It automatically took me to a spot that started the Utility menu so that I could Journal/Erase the new Hard Drive and back out to Load Mountain Lion.

Hope this helps someone as there are other reasons for the three beeps and it's not the Ram.

Thank you MacGyver, actually pressing N <<before>> the tone worked for me like a spank that allowed me to stop the beeping

Hey, I had same problem: A friend give me a macbook pro with french keyboard and os in french. I manage to switch the keys around to suit english keyboard. foolishly i formatted with microsoft windows. Ordered a copy of os x online. when trying to boot from disc, i get the three beeps. i troubleshooted with all kinds of method but none work for me:

Here is a simple trick that worked for me:

I borrowed a friend macbook pro of the same kind, took out my HD and place into a external drive and formatted with mac journal format.

attached it to my friend's macbook pro and installed carbon copy cloner on my friend's....

ran the app and cloned everything from his macbook pro's drive to mine through the external.

once completed, place my drive back in and it booted like magic.

only problem, everything will appeaars like the friends.

Just log in and create a new account and delete that friends account.

you might need to uninstall all apps that user purchased and download with yours account
