Peggy, a new video cable will not "fix both screens are now black" the video cable is only for the internal LCD and do not connect with an external monitor. It does sound like you are having issues with the GPU circuitry, your computer does not have a separate video card. Your video card is integrated onto the logic board. So in that case you would have to replace the mother board. Since you took it apart, I would definitely go back and examine every connector and double check your work.

I took it to a computer repair shop and was told it needed a new video card (which was going to cost me $150 to fix), so I took it apart & found did remove the video card (AMD Sepron) & ordered a new one from Amazon. I have checked every connection several times. Is it possible I shorted out something on the motherboard by using a metal/magnetized screwdriver to remove all the screws (stupid)? I'm sooooo confused & just want my laptop to work! Thanks for your input.

I'm not sure how to post the link from amazon. This is what I purchased...AMD Mobile Sempron Si-42 2.1ghz Cpu Processor Smsi42sam12gg Tested
I did find out this weekend that it's not my video card causing the problem. But still not sure the problem. Since my HDD light does not come on, I had the hard drive tested & it works fine in another laptop. All connections seem fine, possibly motherboard problem. Also, the SD Card light does not come on when SD card inserted. Possibly motherboard problem. The dvd player runs, but not without a screen, I'm not sure if it is being recognized either. So without paying to have it tested, I'm at a standstill now. Guess it will go back into the closet until I figure something else out. HELP???

Peggy , which video cable? what is going on with your laptop?

The screen is black. I hooked it to an external monitor and it worked for a few days, until I took the back off and opened up the computer to look at the video card and clean the fan. After putting it all back together, both screens are now black and only the battery/ac adapter/power lights come on. It powers up & I hear the dvd player working & the fan works intermittently. It does make communication with external monitor, but still both black screens. I was told I need a new video card & maybe a new video cable.
