I just tried the same thing. Looks like you'd need to be superman to get the two apart.

I don't know about the older ones. But I just tried to replace the Screen Digitizer. So the glass and touch screen on a Samsung Galaxy Tab Model: SM-T310 16GB WiFi model.

Unfortunately they have decided to glue the Glass/Digitizer to the LCD panel, making it very difficult if not almost impossible to replace only the Glass/Digitizer panel. (I followed a guide on Youtube where the digitizer was only glued to the bezel not the LCD)

I used a heat gun with different settings that i purchased from Harbor Freight for around $30 dollars that actually has different settings. I used the 570 deg F first and once I realized the LCD was glued to the glass I moved it up a notch to 660 deg F. Unfortunately I wasn't patient enough and ended up cracking the LCD as well. I'm not sure what temperatures the LCD can actually handle either, that may also have damaged it. I know the logic boards and electronic components can definitely handle that high of a temperature, LCD doubtful. Would be nice if one of the iFixit guru's could weigh in on this. I've taken pictures of the torn down unit, if you want me to post. It's not really a help in taking it apart, but it's verification for you that there actually is/was glue on the LCD in the newer models.

best manner to replace it is by taking it to a Samsung dealer they usual give the services and ask them to replace the screen. I've done so with several different makes of cellphones.

I don't think so Victor. If that was an economical option none of us would be posting here. The screen replacement for this model is roughly $20 less than a new unit and that's just for the part itself, unless you buy the digitizer only and can save the LCD panel. I've had a worthless tablet for over a year now because it's not cost effective to replace the LCD & digitizer.

well I've watched several videos and it seems when asking for a new screen they give more than what you ask for, (screen & digitizer). Where i am if you ask to replace just the screen they do so, they'll ask if the digitizer still works and will try convince you but if you do't ask for it they wont do so. Probably different service

But here where I am otherwise the world, it's not allowed for the public to buy needed parts like a Digital Cellular Screen. Therefore I had mentioned before hand it inn to a licensed dealer.

Here is a quick update on a repair that I am doing on a Samsung Galaxy Tab Model: SM-T310 16GB WiF. Prepare for a long post with some tips. Before I started this repair I viewed the exact movie that SiliconSurfer viewed. ( usseless )

I used a regular hair dryer with a tight nozzle to heat up the lcd and started peeling of the glass. It was clear to me that the LCD, glas and digitizer are glued together but can be separated.

I have noticed 3 layers in the screen. ( top to bottom)

  1. Top layer glass + adhesive
  2. Flexible digitizer layer
  3. LCD covered in loca glue

My tips & process.

  1. Globally heat up the screen.
  2. Focus on the top right corner en peel off the glass. You will find the flex cable of the digitizer. Try to free this.
  3. Use a LCD cutting wire to gently cut the glass free from the digitizer layer. Apply heat and have a lot of patience. Do not try to lift the glass when its still fixed to the screen. This proces wil take a lot of time and It really made me sweat!
  4. The digitizer wil look like a thick plastic foil and can be gently removed from the frame. Be gentle and apply some heat because the digitizer foil and lcd are fixed with some loca glue.
  5. Clean up al the loca from the LCD & test if it still works.

Next step:

I'm thinking about the next steps an how I will apply new loca and use the UV light to fix the new digitizer in place. Tips on placing the digitizer are more than welcome.

Next time I wil film or take pictures.

Greetings Super Man

i used a heat gun along with a high "E" guitar string (the smallest string).

I used the string like dental floss between the glass and the digitizer. pay attention to where the cable connection is as not to pull on it with the guitar string. start at the opposite end of the cable and work your way down.

I used a hotplate set at 80 c and molybdenum wire. It split quite easily. I have now assembled without loca and have a massive air bubble in between the digitiser and LCD, i don't like using loca as it gets everywhere. But will probably have to, or purchase the full unit.
