Felicia Haze, the ? over a folder indicates that no valid bootable system was found. This could mean that your HDD has failed, or that your filesystem developed errors. The first thing I would do is to run Disk Utility and attempt to Repair Disk from the DVD that came with your MBP.

Hi Felicia, Contact Apple with your computer info and they will sell you a copy of the original OS for about $15, Good luck.

Hi

I would take the information from the other answers and if that doesn’t work try this

Turn the mac off and back on again but hold the ALT button once you hear the chime and select the boot drive if it’s there.if it isn’t your drive has most likely failed

I had to to the whole alt thing with my Mac when I had multiple OS versions

Hopefully this helps

Thanks:-)

Try erasing and reinstalling the OS, but if that doesn't help, the hard drive probably failed.

What about when the HDD is known to be good but the system cannot find *any* disk hardware on the internal SATA bus? All I see is DVD (ATA) and externals.
