Have you considered working on more lenovo laptops?

My lenovo v470's screen has been broken with colored lines and a black crack running across the screen. I haven't been able to find how to replace the screen yet. Know any place or help?

Dave403, check on here. Page 52 of the maintenance manual will show you exactly how to replace it. When you do it, make a guide for all of us and post it.

Laptops are generally built the same way, with some very minor differences in builds. Most laptops will allow you to access the LCD screen without opening the main section of the laptop. However, it is possible that you may have to or even want to open the main section of the laptop to:

Remove the brackets securing the monitor for easier installation of the new screen...

or

The configuration of the laptop forces you to have to open the main section of the laptop so that you can unplug cables, or just to release the front plastic securing it in.

If you have never replaced laptop parts I will tell you that it is a delicate operation. After removing all visible screws, look again, remove all peripherals (HDD, Ram, WiFi Card, Optical Drive, etc) and check for any screws underneath.

Once you have done that, make sure you have released any other screws (VGA / DVI mini screws located on the outside of the case generally) and pull off the top, ensuring you do not break any flex cables or small cables. Do so by lifting slowly and have some vision under the first layer. You may or may not have to pull off the keyboard first, either way you need to disconnect that cable BEFORE pulling it away from the laptop. You will have about 4-5 inches of room before you break the cable.

As for the screen, remove any rubber fittings on the edges of the plastic surrounding the screen. Remove all screws and start pulling away the plastic. It is most likely going to be "clipped" in which will require fingernails or a spanner to pry it apart. This is where you need to exercise caution as you could break the plastic. If it feels like its gonna break, stop and look for anything else securing it down.

Mark all of your screws using paper or post-its so you know what goes where when you reassemble.

Unfortunately there is no breakdowns of the specific Lenovo you have, but as any Tech can tell you, once you have opened enough laptops it becomes second nature, as Toshiba / HP / Dell / Lenovo, etc all have their own way of doing things.

My advice to you is that if you feel uncomfortable with anything I have said above, take it to a Computer Repair shop, or a Ifixit-type friend to do the work for you.

Good luck.
