Can you replace just the screen?
i broke the screen on my htc one x lcd works fine but i was told that i had to replace both lcd and digitizer glass was wondering if this was true or if they are tring to get more money out of me
The issue you might face when replacing just the digitizer is that the lcd and digitizer are stuck together with some serious adhesive. If you have a heat gun and patience, you may be able to separate the two without damaging the incredibly sensitive top layer of the lcd. Good luck!
I attempted this repair. It is not like some phones, where the lcd and digitizer are stuck together with strong adhesive tape. They are glued together. You may get them apart, but part of the lcd will come off with the digitizer. You will have replace both, preferably with an entire assembly. Beware!! A lot of companies will sell you an assembly, but it is just the two separate pieces that they have stuck together themselves.
You can buy the parts separately and stick them together with adhesive, but it doesn't end up looking like the original. The thin space left between the two may cause issues.
I have tried to fix the digitizer only. I have experience in doing the same on at least a dussin different phones. But I didn't succeed, no matter that I was extremely cautious. I ended up with a damaged LCD and small glass parts all over the place.
I bought a new full assembly with LCD+digitizer and got a better result.
Still, even if you replace both LCD and digitizer it's required that you use really good adhesive. Otherwise you will end up with a screen that lifts up at the edges.
Actually you can replace the digitizer / LCD separately, there are many seller selling it separately. Unfortunately iFixit didn't sell it.
Loads at reasonable prices on ebay.
You can purchase the items separately, but as i found out last night, when you try to separate the digitizer from the lcd screen all you end up doing is breaking the lcd screen!!
I had hopes on replacing just the digitizer on mine so I purchased one since they can be found on ebay for under $10 with free shipping, and am now waiting on my new lcd to arrive in the mail because i found out you cannot get the broken digitizer off of the good lcd without making it a broken lcd. I would suggest either ordering the digitizer/lcd assembly or at least both parts and then you don't have to do as I did and spend 4 hours on a project just to have to order another part and then wait for it to arrive to finish it.
bs. glass comes off.
