+As your direct question Yes! You need to replace the home button with the one that came with the iPad as this iPad uses TouchID. Be very careful if you damage it you’ll need to get it repaired by an Apple Store as they are the only ones that can re-program the button.

You might want to review this great IFIXIT guide: [guide|88070] jump down to Step39 which is the Home button connection make sure you properly connected it. You also want to makes sure you hadn’t damaged the ribbon cable leading to the front cover glass.

If you don’t see any problems with your repair you might want to carefully remove from your damaged glass the home button so you can give it a try as a test tool plugging it in to see if its working. Vs your new button in the cover glass.
