Prerequisite Steps
Before one can access the interior of the HP Media Center 876x Desktop PC, the side panel(s) and/or front panel must be removed. See guides below for instructions on how to accomplish these preliminary steps.
Computer Does Not Read Discs
Loose Optical Drive Cable Connection
Ensure that the ribbon cable is connected securely from the motherboard to the optical drive. Clean the disc before placing it in the disc tray.
Defective Optical Drive
If the ribbon cable is properly connected and problems persist, then the optical drive is defective and requires replacement.

Nothing Appears On Screen After Powering On
Monitor Not Connected Properly
Connect the blue colored VGA cable into the blue ports on the monitor and the back of the computer. Tighten the hand-screws of the cable in order to guarantee a secure connection.
Incorrect BIOS Settings
Open the computer and remove the CMOS battery. Press, and hold down, the power button for 10 to 15 seconds. This will reset the BIOS settings for the computer.
Defective Memory
Open the computer and remove the random access memory (RAM) sticks, then place the sticks back in their respective ports. If the issue is still present, then the system memory is faulty and requires replacement.
Faulty Video Card
Open up the computer and remove the video card, then place the video card back into its port. If the computer still does not show an image on screen, or the image is of poor quality, then the video card is defective and requires replacement.
No Television Reception
Faulty TV Tuner Card
Open up the computer and remove the TV tuner card, then place the TV tuner card back into its port. If the computer continues to be unresponsive to the TV tuner, then the TV tuner card is defective and requires replacement.

Computer Shuts Off Without Warning
Overheating Computer Due To Fan Failure
If the fan is not spinning while the computer is powered on, turn off the computer and open it up to examine whether the fan is properly connected to the motherboard. If the fan is properly connected but is still not spinning, then it is faulty and requires replacement.
Computer Does Not Turn On
Faulty Power Supply
Examine if the power supply connections are plugged in securely (to both computer tower and the wall outlet). Press the power button to turn on the computer. If the system fan is not spinning, the indicator lights are off, and the disk drives do not power on, then the power supply is faulty and requires replacement.
