I cannot see the SSID for the device or MiFi in My Networks list.
It may take a few seconds for the computer to recognize the device.
Wait a few minutes and refresh networks list.
I changed my interface logon password and have forgotten the password.
You will need to reset the device.
Carefully insert a paper clip into the pin hole on the back of the device, then push and hold for at least 5 seconds until the LEDs blink off and on twice.
The device will power up with the default configuration which is open access until the Setup Wizard is run or the configuration backup file restored via the web user interface.
My MiFi 2200 is warm to the touch.
In areas of low 3G coverage the radio transmit power will be at the max and the MiFi will give off more heat.
- This is nothing to worry about. There is a broadband radio and a Wi-Fi radio inside of the MiFi 2200. The device has been tested and approved by the FCC, heat production is normal.
I just completed an firmware upgrade and I don’t see my SSID.
The firmware upgrades may have overwrote the Wi-Fi configuration information on the device with the updated device defaults.
- Use the following steps to regain your SSID.
- Connect to the MiFi 2200
- Utilize the MiFi 2200 configuration backup and restore function to save and reload your Wi-Fi settings from the user interface.
- Cancel the Setup Wizard and log into user interface home page
- Navigate to the Advanced > Config page
- Download File prior to the firmware update and for backup
- Upload File to load your previous defaults
- If you did not save the Wi-Fi configuration prior to the Firmware Update or device reset, then utilize the Setup Wizard when logging into the device.
I am unable to connect or I receive an error when trying to connect to the mobile broadband network.
There are many issues which can block connection to the mobile broadband network. Many of these issues can be easily fixed.
Another network is active on the computer
Make sure the LAN connection is not active by disabling or disconnecting the LAN Ethernet cable.
Insufficient signal strength
Check the signal strength in the MiFi-2200 User Interface. If the signal is low, move to another location with better coverage. Poor coverage errors can result in error code 668 (no signal) which can be viewed in the WWAN > Diagnostics page of the User Interface. Coverage maps are available at the websites for respective communication network companies.
Account not activated
- If the User Interface web client (http://192.168.1.1/) displays a message that the device is not activated, user may start an activation session through the menu: Go to WWAN > Configuration > Activate Device.
- Once activated click the will connect automatically if 3G-Auto Connect is enabled. (Advanced > Advanced Options > 3G Auto Connect [check]). If not activated, push the connect button on the WWAN > Diagnostics page to connect the network.
I can not connect or have lost connection (power indicator isn't green).
Unit is roaming
- A blue LED indicates the unit is roaming.
Power is low
- A red blinking power LED indicates that the power is critically low. Use the wall charger to charge the battery
- The power indicator will be lit amber while the battery is charging. Device can still be used while charging.
There is a modem error indicated by an amber blinking LED
- This error may occur in challenging radio frequency environments when multiple Wi-Fi services are available or other network errors occur. To obtain service again, following these instructions:
- Turn the device off and on, green or amber LED light (amber while charging) indicates the unit is normal
- Turn off device, remove battery and power back on. Green or solid amber LED (amber while charging) indicates the unit is normal.
- if problem continues, move to another location and repeat the steps
- Turn off device, remove battery and power back on. Green or solid amber LED (amber while charging) indicates the unit is normal.

Novatel MiFi 2200 will not auto-connect to wifi after a firmware upgrade.
'' You have waited more than five minutes, but it just won’t connect. ’’
Ensure device is powered on
Before doing anything make sure that the device is plugged in and that the lights are turned on and glowing.
Give time to download
It is necessary to allow the firmware upgrade to download completely before turning off this device. Turning off the device before it is finished upgrading may cause permanent damage to the unit.

MiFi 2200 won't broadcast wireless signal when plugged in to computer’s USB.
You will likely find that when you plug your MiFi 2200 into your computer’s USB port, it will no longer broadcast a wireless signal. So if you want to charge your MiFi from your computer’s USB port and still broadcast a wifi network, the device won’t let you. To fix this you will need to modify the device’s configuration file
First log into your MiFi
You will need to log into your MiFi to modify the configuration file.
- With your MiFi plugged into your computer’s USB port open up an internet browser (ie Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox)
- Type the following into the URL bar: “http://192.168.1.1/login.cgi”
- You should see a screen that comes up which contains a blank entry bar next to a button which says “Login”. In that bar type in 192.168.1.1 and click “Login”
Download the configuration file
Now that you are logged into your MiFi, you will need to download the configuration file to be able to modify it.
*Click the “Advanced” tab then select “Config File” from the drop down menu.
- Click the link that says “Download File”
- You will see a large page of text. You want to save this to your computer.
- You can do this by copying and pasting all the text into your text editor (ie Notepad).
- You can also save the file to your computer by right clicking and selecting “Save as”. If a “.sav” extension appears at the end of the file name, you will need to delete it before downloading the file.
Open the configuration file in a text editor on your computer
You are now going to modify the configuration file. Open the file which you saved to your computer in the previous step. You are going to need to use a text editor (ie Notepad) to open the file. Once the file is opened:
- Find the line of code which says “<routeroverusb>0</routeroverusb>”. It should be towards the top of the text.
- Change the “0” to a “1”. This line should now read “<routeroverusb>1</routeroverusb>”.
- Save the file.
Upload the modified configuration file
You will now upload the file which you just modified. Back in the window where you clicked “Download File” find the box which says “Config File Upload”.
- Click the link which says “Browse” and select your file from the browser.
- Next click the link which says “Upload File”
Once you have uploaded the new configuration file to your MiFi, you are done. Your MiFi should charge from your computer’s USB port and broadcast a wireless signal at the same time. Note: this only works on the MiFi 2200 and not other MiFi Models.
If modifying the configuration file doesn’t work…
If you are not comfortable modifying the configuration file or modifying the configuration file does not work there is still something you can do. Simply purchase a charge only USB cable. Such a cable does not have the data pins necessary to transmit data but will still charge your device. A charge only cable can be found online or at your local electronics store for less than $15.
