Anki Cozmo Troubleshooting
This troubleshooting page will help you identify and correct common issues with the Anki Cozmo robot.
Arms don’t move
Cozmo’s arms will not move upon command from the Anki app, or to express mood during free mode.
A common cause of the arms not moving is the arms becoming misaligned with the internal motor system. To fix this, remove arms using a screwdriver and then reattach them.
Won’t connect to cellular device
Cozmo is not connecting to wifi or handheld mobile device
Home Wifi Interference
A common cause of this issue is home wifi interfering with or preventing the cozmo wifi from reaching and connecting to your cellular device. A common symptom of this error is being prompted to re-enter your password or noticing the cozmo wifi is dipping in and out. To fix this, try turning your home wifi off while using cozmo. This reduces interference from the home network and should increase the reception and connective ability of the cozmo wifi network.
Speakers do not work
The sounds Cozmo emits to display excitement and other emotions is quiet, low quality, or simply just stops.
Obstruction of speakers
If the sound quality is weak or quieter than it should be, a common cause is that there is a foreign material blocking the speaker. This can be fixed by accessing Cozmo’s internal hardware and lightly dusting off the speaker system with a cotton swab or similar object.
If sound does not emit from Cozmo at all, the speakers may not work, and need to be replaced. This can be done by opening Cozmo, removing the speaker, and installing a new, working one.
Cube doesn’t turn on
Cozmo plays and interacts with these cubes, when Cozmo comes in contact with a cube it will light up.
Cube Battery is dead
The cube has a battery that causes it to light up and help connect with Cozmo. This battery may need to be replaced. To test if the battery should be replaced unscrew the lid of the cube, wait ten seconds, then replace the lid. If the cube then flashes red, then green, then blue the battery is fine. If it does not flash these colors the battery should be replaced. For information on replacing the battery within the cube, follow this guide.
Cube is not synced correctly
Cube needs to be synced to Cozmo in order to work. To sync cube, move the cubes near Cozmo and check if the cubes are synced within the app settings. If the cube is connected you will see a green check. If not connecting this could be a battery issue. To change the battery follow this guide.
Screen Doesn’t Come On
When Cozmo is powered on his screen does not light up.
Battery is dead
Cozmo’s battery may be depleted and needs charging. Place Cozmo on his charging station and press the power button.
Wifi not connected
Phone will not connect to Cozmo wifi
If Cozmo is not connected to your phones wifi through the app that had to be downloaded in order for him to operate, he will not turn on. Go to the app store and download the app “Cozmo”. After that, put him on his charger and press his “on” button. Open the wifi in your phone’s settings application, and connect to Cozmo’s Wifi. Then, take Cozmo off of his charger and try again, he should wake up.
