I used the suction cup that came with the replacement battery kit. It took me quite a while to get the screen loose, but ultimately it came open. They are not kidding when they said this device is tighter that most. I also use the iOpener to get the battery to let go. The iOpener worked like a charm.
I don’t think the application of the purple fairy dust was excessive. I wear my iPhone X in an Otter Box belt holster all the time. I spend a fair amount of time in my weekend weld shop. Welding and grinding produces copious amounts of very fine metallic dust. Obviously, there is no way to put Z Phone in any sort of protective case other than a zip lock bag. I would be afraid of opening the plastic bag anywhere near the shop. The hinge issues would keep Z Phone out of a welding shop. Not that I am at all interested in owning one at all.
