iPad Mini 2 Digitizer Repair

My daughter's iPad Mini 2 had a cracked digitizer panel. The Al case had some been visibly bent causing stress on the digitizer. It was still working, but causing too much distress.

The repair went slowly, but well. The longest part was removing the old digitizer. Once I had it fully disassembled, I was able to bend the Al frame back into near normal. My repair was successful and my daughter was very happy.

The instructions do not say anything about cleaning off the residual adhesive from the frame. I did this carefully and use ethyl rubbing alcohol to loosen the remaining material. Including treated cleaning pads in the kit would be a plus. Also, the recommended procedure for removing the tape from the LCD panel could be improved. I am a EE professor and a pretty good Mr Fixit. I would rate this as a repair only for those with good nerves, decent skill, and patience. I really is not that bad, but the key is to take your time and follow the instructions carefully. Trying to rush this job would lead to disaster. Be sure your work surface is clean and clear. I used a clean towel to ensure that if I dropped a small part (especially the little screws), that it would not bounce away and get lost. Those with older eyes may want light magnifying googles to focus on the smaller pieces.
