Background and Identification
Timbuk2 is a bag manufacturer and marketer based in San Francisco, California. The company produces pre-made and made-to-order bags. Timbuk2’s founder, Rob Honeycutt, a bike messenger, developed a bag pattern able to accommodate custom orders from independent bike dealers in San Francisco. The company’s swirl logo was designed by Honeycutt and mimics the rotation of a bike wheel.
A messenger bag, also known as a courier bag, is a type of sack, generally made of either natural or synthetic cloth. Messenger bags are worn over one shoulder with a strap that rests across the chest while resting the bag on the lower back. Messenger bags were traditionally carried by couriers (people who deliver messages, packages, or letters) but are also used as an urban fashion icon. Messenger bags have been used in the transportation of mail and goods by various types of messengers, including Pony Express riders between 1860 and 1861, postal workers, bicycle couriers, and foot messengers (especially in ancient times).
Messenger bags are designed to ensure comfort for people carrying heavy or bulky items while allowing easy access to the bag’s contents.
