Background and Identification
The Sony Betamovie BMC - 220 is a combination video recorder and camera. The camera is identified as a Betamovie device on the side where the casette is inserted. Above the Betamovie label, there is a smaller label that reads Betamovie BMC - 220 which distinguishes it from other Betamovie models. The Betamovie weighs 5 lbs 13 oz and has a maximum recording time of 3 hours and 20 minutes.
The BMC - 220 is very similar to earlier Betamovie models like the BMC - 100P and BMC - 110 except it includes an auto-focus feature. The Betamovie can only be used with Betamax cassette tapes. Because the Betamovie could only use specific tapes, and it had no play-back feature, Sony stopped producing the cameras in the late 1980s. The camera comes with a battery pack, a power adaptor, an eye cup cover, a shoulder strap, and a decal.
